The
consequences of abuse are extremely serious, in many cases
life threatening. Unfortunately, many people don't even
realize they have a problem, and unless they get help,
abusers can lose their families, health, careers, reputation,
and eventually their lives.
How do I know if someone has a problem?
Sometimes it's hard to tell. Many abusers do a good job hiding their abuse. These simple questions can help you identify a potential problem:/p>
- Does the person seem to need to use alcohol or drugs, or has their usage gone up?
- Does the person lie about their usage or try to hide it?
- Does the person "change" when they use?
- Do others comment on the person's usage? Or do others feel uncomfortable when the person uses?
- Does the person display poor judgment, like driving while under the influence or using at work?
- Does using affect the person's family, work, or school?
